Islands

If you are here then make sure that you are in for a few other surprises.  Over here much of the coral that is a part of coco island’s natural turf, was destroyed by the El Nino winds that happened in the year nineteen eighty two.  And this is mainly why the island has a very different underwater landscape. This place is quite different from most of the Caribbean.  The diving sites here are quite steep. Including the many under water cliffs and the rock sharp bases of the small islands that are just around the main area of the island. The Okeanos aggressor which is a long boat that leaves from the main land Costa Rica  to the coco island every fortnight, is just one of the many other ( half a dozen to be precise) that offer diving programs that  is strictly structured by the standards of this particular industry.. all the diving that is planned  , is done around and about three different times of the day , which is about eight in he morning , ten forty five in the morning and about two in the after noon.  Most of the divers here just go to the same spot.  This is usually done on a back roll right near the island.  The Divers here either start their adventure form the Ray gates or the Paula gates. This dive has guides and managers who are all part of the Okeanos operation. These people have monitors who dive with each of these many groups.

If you actually do want a night dive, you could actually get one organized with the sole discretion of Ray. Although you should know that the night dives are usually conducted in a shallow bay.

The reason the diving structure is strict here is because, it is already challenge to dive into the rugged marine conditions of the Coco Island.  They trainers and divers get regular briefings about new dive sites, and their descriptions include the entire manifest of the geography that lies under the water.  Because the water may get murky, it is could get quite obscured and considering how strong the currents could be at this level, the situations could get life threatening and in fact quite fierce.

If you are actually moving against a current; you would probably notice that no matter how hard you pedal your fins, there is absolutely no use. In fact the only way you could actually move anywhere is by getting a hold on the bottom o and then pulls yourself forward using the strength of just your upper body. There are times when the current can actually rip the regulator right out of your mouth. So it is important that you be cautious of this kind of situation. If you actually feel like your are being drawn into the current, the best thing to do would be to hold on the rocks that are under water. If you actually do get swept into sea by the current it would be quite difficult for the diving operators to actually spot you. This is just a possibility, although up to now, no divers have actually been lost.

The Okeanos diving program is also designed based on the isolation of the island. In act there are some divers here who get dazzled by the riches under water. As you go deeper and deeper you may start feeling the decompression sickness.

Despite all these, the Aggressor and its staff and its guests seem quite safe. Most of the members of the crew here are former members of the Costa Rican life guards. And because of this, they are good at spotting divers who are lost are the nearby sea.

Most divers have a computer so that they can actually calculate the amount of depth that they have to dive into and the time that it would take them to reach and such.

Because the company organizes a three day diving schedule, you would have a lot of time o the boat.  The salon and the deck is where you usually do your reading and even have your sun bath. If you think you are getting sun burnt then go down quickly into the cabins and stay there a while. These rooms are quite specious if you consider that it is aboard a boat. The nineteen passengers have to share about four showers.  For the divers who aren’t night diving, ray comes up with a spectacular underwater film that he shoots when he goes diving in the night. During the afternoons, the crew got out their Wahoo and tuna which would usually always end up at the dinner table.  The food here is quite good. The boat carries a good supply of snacks, fruit, vegetables and salad.
